About us
Everything you need to know about PBES NL
Who We Are
The Platform for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Netherlands (PBES NL) is the Dutch platform for biodiversity. To combat biodiversity loss, different types of stakeholders need to work together, from governments to scientists, businesses, citizens, professionals and many more. Therefore, within the field of biodiversity, we act as a mediator between policy, science and practice. In doing so, we hope to promote decision-making on biodiversity issues that is based on sound evidence, and takes place through collaboration.
Why PBES NL
Biodiversity matters: our impact on a sustainable world
In line with the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), the overall objective of PBES NL is to strengthen the (Dutch) science-policy interface for biodiversity and ecosystem services for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity, long-term human well-being and sustainable development.
Biodiversity and nature’s benefits are crucial for human development and the achievement of several of the Sustainable Development Goals. It provides us with food, clean water, climate regulation, and disease control. However, natural resources are depleting rapidly. IPBES brings together diverse expertise to inform policies and drive their implementation across government, the private sector, and civil society.
What We Do
Bridging science, policy, and practice
PBES NL supports the transfer of scientific knowledge to policy and practice and vice versa, helps to expand your knowledge with other experts on topical issues, and connects information on biodiversity and makes it openly available.
Moreover, PBES NL will disseminate (Dutch) information from the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) reports and, together with experts, will provide state-of-the-art knowledge for the upcoming reports.
